Five Peaks of Anthony Lakes

An early morning view of the five peaks that surround Anthony Lakes, Oregon.

The Five Peaks of Anthony Lakes

Well, I will tell you a little secret. This is one of my favorite images for many reasons. I grew up skiing at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort. Many things have changed in my life over the years, but this view has remained a steady constant. I have stood on this very spot more times than I can possibly remember, during the winter & summer, stormy days & clear, in day and in night. They are all beautiful but this particular day was unique.

On this day, I was the first person to the top of the mountain just before sunrise. Not a single skier or boarder had yet touched the still pristine corduroy. I set up my tripod right in the middle of the run and took the several shots. The lines of the corduroy leading your eye to the majestic granite mountains that are the next-door neighbors of the ski area.

The peaks are, from left to right, Van Patten Butte, Gunsight Mountain, Angel Peak, Lees Peak and lastly, Lakes Lookout. Each peak has characteristics and personalities all their own. Woven in and around the peaks are hiking & nordic trails, lakes, meadows, basins & bowls, all wonderful places to explore both in summer and winter. This place feels like it is home to me. I have explored just about every inch.
